The Worlds Most On-Time Airline is…

The oneworld alliance has come out on top for the most on-time flights with its members collectively achieving a better score than other groups, receiving the Airline Alliance On-Time Performance Award for 2012.

Two JAL Group airlines have once again received recognition for their excellent on-time arrival rates from Flightstats an independent aviation performance-tracking company.

Beating 29 global carriers around the world, Japan Airlines came first in the Major International Airlines and Major Asia Airlines categories with a score of 90.35 percent in on-time arrivals for both their international and domestic flights. Malaysia Airlines, oneworld’s newest member, was runner up to Japan Airlines in the Major Asia Airlines category for on time arrivals.

JAL Group’s Osaka based subsidiary J-Air received an even better score of 92.58, becoming the most punctual in the category of Asia Regional Airlines in 2012.

oneworld CEO Bruce Ashby said: “oneworld aims to be the first choice alliance for frequent international travellers. We and our member airlines know just how important it is to these customers in particular that flights depart and arrive on time, so it is gratifying that our on-time performance has been confirmed as the best by FlightStats’ independent audit."

In the Middle East and Africa category, Qatar Airways was ranked as a top five airline, whilst one world affiliate member LAN Peru also ranked highly in the South America Major Airlines section.

Finnair scored highly in the European Major Airlines class and also for Lowest Global Cancellations, whilst Australia’s Qantas did well in the Pacific Major Airlines category.

The results are for the period of January to December 2012 and are based on FlightStats’ tracking of the performance of nearly 150,000 flights a day operated by airlines worldwide.
