Figures released by the BITRE show that Qantas and Virgin Blue turned in the best on-time performances for domestic airlines last year, while Tiger brought up the rear. BITRE says that on time performance over all routes operated by participating airlines averaged 83.3 per cent for on time departures, and 81.8 per cent for on time arrivals. With cancellations for 2010 representing one per cent of all scheduled flights. The figures for the previous year were 85 per cent for departures, 84 per cent for arrivals and 1.2 per cent for cancellations. The long term average performance for all routes since reporting commenced in November 2003 is 84.7 per cent for on time departures and 83.4 per cent for on time arrivals. Of the major domestic airlines, Qantas achieved the highest level of on time departures for 2010 at 85.6 per cent, followed by Virgin Blue at 83.0 per cent, Jetstar at 80.7 per cent and Tiger at 71.7 per cent. Qantas also achieved the highest percentage of on time arrivals among the major domestic airlines at 85.6 per cent, followed by Virgin Blue at 82.3 per cent, Jetstar at 80.8 per cent and Tiger at 72.2 per cent. Of the participating regional airlines, Skywest was the best performing regional airline for on time arrivals at 86.2 per cent, followed by Regional Express at 82.8 per cent, and QantasLink at 77.7 per cent. Virgin Blue had the highest percentage of cancellations for 2010 at 1.5 per cent, while Regional Express had the lowest at 0.2 per cent. The on-time arrivals were led by Regional Express at 87.5 per cent, Skywest at 86.6 per cent and QantasLink at 81.3 per cent.
