Singapore Airlines will mark an historic milestone this weekend when it operates its final 747 service to Melbourne. The last 747-400 in Singapore Airlines’ fleet will depart Melbourne on 25Mar12 to Singapore. To commemorate the retirement of the 747 fleet after nearly 40 years of service, Melbourne passengers travelling on flight SQ238 will be treated to a special 747 cake both at the gate and in the SilverKris lounge.
SQ238 will be the final scheduled 747 flight to be operated by Singapore Airlines and will depart Melbourne on 25Mar12 at 1120 and arrive in Singapore at 1610. The flight is fully booked. The aircraft, registered 9V-SPQ, was the last 747-400 delivered to Singapore Airlines in 2001, and will operate the special commemorative Singapore – Hong Kong flights on 6Apr12 with an extended flying time for 747 aficionados to enjoy a unique flight experience complete with 747 memorabilia.
