When you think of the Maldives ice and snow is not the first thing, or the second or third thing, that comes to mind. The sunny island paradise in the middle of the Indian Ocean draws millions of visitors to its white sandy shores every year to enjoy a break in the tropical sun. But this year the Jumeirah Vittaveli is trying something different, an ice-skating rink. Giving guests the truly unique experience of taking a tip in the warm waters of the Indian Ocean, then towelling off and gliding out over ice.
The first of its kind in the Maldives, the rink will transport travellers to a mini winter wonderland in the heart of the tropics. The rink will launch just before Christmas and will add a little more magic and the unique experience of skating around the rink in the middle of a beachside resort.
