Turkish Airlines Lands in Sydney: Connecting Australia and Europe Like Never Before

Turkish Airlines has officially touched down in Sydney, marking a significant milestone as the first mainland European carrier to return to Sydney Airport. Following the successful launch of Melbourne flights earlier this year, Sydney becomes the second Australian city to join the airline’s ever-expanding global network, which now covers over 350 destinations across six continents.

New Horizons for Tourism and Trade

The newly introduced flights will operate four times a week, paving the way for increased tourism, trade, and cultural exchange between Türkiye and Australia. With its growing popularity among Australian travelers and the presence of over 15,000 Turkish-born residents in New South Wales, the demand for this route is expected to soar.

Turkish Airlines is enhancing long-haul comfort with its state-of-the-art Airbus A350-900 aircraft, featuring 32 flatbed business class seats and 297 reclining economy seats, ensuring a luxurious experience for every traveler.

Exciting Plans for Non-Stop Flights

This is just the beginning for Turkish Airlines in Sydney. A fifth weekly flight is scheduled to commence in June 2025, and the airline has announced plans for a non-stop Sydney-Istanbul route by 2026. Once operational, this will become the first direct flight connecting Australia and Türkiye, representing the longest flight path in the airline’s history.

Turkish Airlines CEO Bilal Ekşi emphasized the significance of this expansion, stating, “This momentous occasion highlights our commitment to connecting travelers across the globe, and we look forward to further enhancing our service with Australia’s first non-stop flights to Istanbul."

Boosting Sydney’s Global Connectivity

Sydney Airport CEO Scott Charlton celebrated the partnership, highlighting its positive impact on the airport’s international network. “Turkish Airlines brings added competition to the market while offering Sydney travelers a new, high-quality option to Europe via Istanbul," Charlton remarked.

The NSW Minister for Jobs and Tourism, John Graham, added that the new service is expected to inject approximately AUD 53 million into New South Wales’ visitor economy annually.

A Celebration Fit for the Occasion

To mark the historic launch, Turkish Airlines hosted a grand event at the Sofitel Sydney Wentworth, showcasing the best of Turkish culture. Guests enjoyed traditional Turkish tea, coffee, sweets, live music, and cultural activations such as calligraphy and arts. Among the VIP attendees were Türkiye’s Ambassador to Australia Ufuk Gezer and other key industry figures, underscoring the strong economic and cultural ties between the two nations.

Special Launch Fares

To celebrate this milestone, Turkish Airlines is offering special fares starting from AUD 1,489 for travel from Sydney to Istanbul, valid until June 2025.
