Itinerary
Day 1: Depart from Adelaide
The historic Ghan departs from Adelaide and makes its way through the rolling hills of South Australia. Take in the the spectacular Flinders Ranges from the comfort of your day cabin and view some of the oldest rock formations in the world. In the evening, indulge in some pre-dinner drinks and a multi-course, regionally decadent dinner with fine wines at the elegant dinning carriages and socialise with your fellow travellers.
Day 2: MacDonnell Ranges – Alice Springs
Start your day with an Off Train Experience and a delicious cup of coffee or juice while you enjoy the dawns at Marla, in the remote area of South Australia taking in the mesmerising sunrise over the desert – a truly remarkable experience to behold. Back on board for brunch as you weave through the MacDonnell Ranges and on to Alice Springs with an opportunity for a choice of Off Train Excursions including; Simpsons Gap or Alice Springs Desert Park guided walks, explore Alice Springs including the Royal Flying Doctor Service Base or upgrade to one of the scenic flight or helicopter tours of the region. For the more adventurous, upgrade your experience and hop on a camel at Pyndan Camel Tracks yards and take in the rugged landscape.
Day 3: Katherine – Darwin
Travel through the wilderness of Katherine and you’ll have the chance to explore it from the water or land with your off-train experiences. Cruise through the gorgeous Nitmiluk Gorge taking in Indigenous rock art and learn about the Nitmiluk culture or discover life at an outback cattle station (from May to October) in time to enjoy the night in Darwin.
