Day 1 (MADRID – TARANCON – CUENCA )
Departure across the Castilian high plains to the Province of Cuenca. In the afternoon, you may like to do a walking tour of the city, crossing the pedestrian bridge of San Pablo to see the "hanging houses", perched on the cliffs, the Main Plaza, cathedral, and the Baroque city hall. Accommodations at the Parador of San Pablo, an ancient 12th century convent.
Day 2 (CUENCA – ALBARRACIN – TERUEL )
Buffet breakfast and departure to Albarracin, a town of Roman origin in the mountains of the same name. Continue to Teruel, a city of Carthaginian origins, for accommodations in the Parador, a palace of Mudejar design.
Day 3 (TERUEL – EL MAESTRAZGO – ALCAÑIZ )
Buffet breakfast and free time to explore the Main Plaza with its Mudejar towers, cathedral, the aqueduct and the convent. Departure through the Mountains of Gudar, through interesting villages like Rubielos de Mora. Continue into the region of the "high Maestrazgo", passing through the towns of Mosqueruela and Cantavieja, famous for Trondon cheese. Continue to Mirambel, a town which testifies to the deeds of El Cid, the Spanish folk hero. Accommodations in the Parador of Alcañiz, a medieval castle.
Day 4 (ALCAÑIZ – CASPE – LERIDA – TARREGA – CARDONA )
Buffet breakfast and departure to Caspe, an historical city where an historic compromise was made between the old kingdoms of Aragon and Castile to avoid a civil war. On to Lerida, famous for its cuisine and continue to Tarrega then Cardona for accommodations at the Parador of Cardona, a medieval castle.
Day 5 (CARDONA – MONTSERRAT – BARCELONA )
Buffet breakfast and departure to Montserrat. Free time to admire its beautiful monastery, belonging to the Benedictine Order, located in a privileged setting with eroded rock formations, used by Wagner as the setting of his opera Parsifel. Continue to Barcelona to return your hire car.
