Sydney is a vibrant, dynamic and accessible city waiting to be explored.
Unless visitors to Sydney are specifically seeking out friends in outlying areas, most will have no real need to travel too far away from the central city area and the harbour. Most Sydney tourist attractions are either within the central business district, close to the CBD, or at points around the harbour. The exceptions are Bondi and Manly – surf beach suburbs situated south and north of Sydney Heads.

7.25am Depart Darwin for Alice Springs with Qantas 9.30am Alice Springs is a thriving outback town located on the banks of the usually dry Todd River, 2 miles south of its original site at the Alice Springs Telegraph Station. Alice Springs is surprisingly an artistic epicenter and has the highest concentration of indigenous art galleries per capita of any Australian town or city. Alice Springs played a pivotal role in the opening up of inland Australia for cattle, the gold rush era, WWII and in the early development of aviation and communication links with Britain and the rest of the world. The early pioneers to Alice Springs needed to be innovative – they were thousands of kilometers from larger townships, in an unfamiliar place with extreme climate and limited water. Despite the challenges, many of the early pioneers came up with new ways to do things including the Royal Flying Doctors Service. Transfer to Alice Springs town from airport. 10.00am The Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) is responsible for an area larger than Western Europe with 23 bases and 45 aircraft Australia wide. It has become an Australian institution, providing first response medical treatment and transporting sick and injured Australians by air from remote corners of the country. 11.30am Mbantua Gallery is located in Alice Springs and is home to a large collection of Aboriginal art from the Central Desert region. Mbantua is the main outlet for the Utopia artists who live in remote Central Australia with works available for viewing or purchase. 2.00pm 2.50pm No photograph can do justice to the sheer presence that the icons Uluru and Kata Tjuta exude. Uluru and Kata Tjuta hold deep spiritual significance for the traditional owners, the Anangu people. The spiritual nature of the place attracts visitors from within Australia and around the world to experience it. Increasing numbers of visitors elect to respect Anangu wishes and do not climb Anangu. 3.30pm 3.45pm Meet Traditional Owners who will guide one on this short track to Mutitjulu waterhole, home of a wanampi, an ancestral water snake. This site has deep cultural significance to the Anangu women, as, according to them, the waters of the Mutitjulu waterhole have great spiritual healing powers. 5.05pm 6.30pm Watch the sunset over Uluru and Kata Tjuta from a dune viewing area in the middle of the desert. Sip a glass of sparkling wine or cool ale and marvel at the play of colors as the sun slowly sets over Kata Tjuta and Uluru. The area allows visitors to see Uluru and Kata Tjuta in the wider desert landscape of spinifex covered dunes and swales, dotted with kurkura or desert oaks. 7.30am Meet Traditional Owners for this walk which will take one along a portion of the base of Uluru. The guides will point out many fine examples of Anangu rock art along this walk, and one will experience the sheer vertical walls and profound peacefulness of Kantju Gorge. During the guided walk, learn more about the Tjukurpa; the Anangu people’s religious heritage and an explanation of their existence to guide their daily life. 9.30am The Uluru-Kata Tjuta Cultural Centre’s main role is as an interpretive experience for visitors. Anangu, the traditional Aboriginal landowners, have worked with architects, designers and interpreters to create this dynamic experience. 10.00am Join Indigenous artists at the Uluru Cultural Centre for a fun introduction to Aboriginal art and the chance to create own masterpiece that tells own story using techniques that are thousands of years old. 1.00pm 2.00pm A scenic flight is an unforgettable way to appreciate the majesty and scale of Uluru and Kata Tjuta. Walk over Cataract Gorge, a dramatic wilderness in the heart of Launceston, or head to the World Heritage-listed wilderness that makes up 20 per cent of the island. Reveal one’s face in Dove Lake and trek the Overland Track in Cradle-Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park, wander through dark Gondwanan rainforest Southwest National Park and watch two wild rivers tumble through valleys as one in Franklin-Gordon Wild Rivers National Park.
