In 2006 Austria celebrates the 250th Anniversary of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart with exhibitions and events dealing with the life and work of this genius composer.

The Mozarts lived in 9 Getreidegasse from 1747 to 1773, and their son Wolfgang Amadeus was born there in 1756. Today, the home of the Mozart family is a museum where famous exhibits are displayed. Among other attractions, visitors to the museum can see the violin played by the world-famous musical genius as a child, his concert violin, his clavichord, a pianoforte, portraits, and letters of the Mozart family.

Itinerary

Day 1 – Arrival to Munich, Germany (Sun)

Time to rest or to explore the Bavarian capital. At 6pm meet your Tour Director and travelling companions for a welcome dinner at your hotel. (D)

Day 2 – Munich – Salzburg (Mon)Mozart haus

A short drive to Salzburg where sightseeing with a Local Guide starts with a visit of Mozart’s Birthplace in the Getreidegasse, where the Leopold Mozart family lived from 1747 to 1773 and where Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was born. Today the rooms house a museum with the most famous exhibitions such as Mozart’s childhood violin, his concert violin, his clavicord, the pianoforte and portraits and correspondence of the Mozart family. Also visit the brand-new Next-To-Mozart Waxmuseum, where mysterious "Doctor Miracle" will take you on a multi-media journey in time to visit Salzburg in the year 1791. Experience on of Mozart’s lavish parties and meet personalities of historical Salzburg. Finally visit the Mozart Exhibition Viva Mozart in the Neue Residenz where ten real and "virtual" areas utilise animated presentation techniques to allow visitors to experience this interactive exhibition and acoustic levels. Day 3 – Salzburg. Excursion to Salzkammergut. (Tue)

Enjoy the romantic scenery of Sound of Music’s Salzkammergut, the Austrian Lake District with some of the country’s most beutiful Alpine scenery. Stop in Mondsee and visit the Pfarr Church where the marrige took place. Continue to the romantic village of St. Wolfgang to St. Gilgen, where Mozart’s mother was born, before returning to Salzburg. In the evening you will have a candle-lit Dinner Concert with Mozart’s most popular compositions in stylish Stiftskeller St. Peter in the historic centre of Salzburg. (BB, D)

Day 4 – Salzburg – Vienna. (Wed)

Leave Salzburg and drive to Melk at the Danube River where you have time for lunch or for a visit to the Abbey. Then the highlight of today, a scenic Danube Cruise past picturesque villages to Krems. In the late afternoon arrive in Vienna for your three-night stay. Your Tour Director will have suggestions for a special optional dinner outing. (BB)

Sightseeing with a Local Guide features the State Opera House, Ring Boulevard, Hofburg Palace, winter residence of the Austrian Imperial Family and more. Highlights are visits to the completely ronovated Vienna Mozart House, where Mozart lived from 1784-1787 and to the Mozart Exhibition in the Albertina, where Mozart’s life and works, his journeys and his contemporaries are presented. Day 6 – Vienna (Fri)

This morning visit Schönbrunn Palace, where six-year old Mozart and his elder sister played the clavicord for Empress Maria Theresia and her family. The afternoon is free. In the evening enjoy a farewell dinner, followed by a Concert of the Vienna Mozart Orchestra with first-class musicians and internationally renowned opera singers and soloists – all in magnificent costumes and wigs – in one of Vienna’s most famous concert halls. Day 7 – Vienna. (Sat)
