GOLF AT KAPALUA THE PLANTATION COURSE

Consistently ranked as the number 1 golf course in Hawaii, playing The Plantation Course is sure to be on your bucket list. Designed by Ben Crenshaw and Bill Coore, the course was designed on a grand scale in keeping with its location on the slopes of the West Maui Mountains and offers dramatic ocean views from virtually every hole. Its lengthy 7,411 yard par 73 layout challenges the pros but its wide fairways and generous greens make it very playable for the average golfer. With dramatic elevation changes, this course offers plenty of downhill tee shots. You’ll feel like one of the pros when – with the aid of the aggressive slope of the 18th fairway – you will enjoy hitting one of the longest drives of your life.

Thursday 27 August

GOLF AT KAPALUA BAY COURSE

Great champions and stories have emerged here, such as Greg Norman’s first win on America soil, Ian Woosnam and David Llwellyn’s thrilling victory for Wales in the World Cup of Golf and Morgan Pressel’s nail-biting win at the Kapalua LPGA classic. Two of the most popular PGA players ever, Fred Couples and Davis Love III, have each earned victories here – twice. The Bay Course is a championship course that is as challenging as it is beautiful. Known for its breathtaking 5th hole, the only hole to play over the ocean on Maui, it is certainly be on our “must play” list for Maui.

Friday 28 August

GOLF AT THE CHALLENGE AT MANELE BAY COURSE

Today you will be transferred to Laihana Harbour for your short ferry journey to neighbouring island, Lanai to play The Challenge at Manele. The spectacular natural setting of The Challenge at Manele guarantees an unforgettable round.

Perched atop 200-foot cliffs, the course offers dramatic views of the ocean from all 18 holes. Lush, green fairways are bordered by black lava outcroppings, reminders of the ancient origins of Lana’i. Carved out of the rugged coast, the Challenge at Manele sprawls across ancient lava fields with 180- degree ocean panoramas from every hole. Red cliffs plunging down to the sea, lush fairways engulfing white sand traps, and blossoms from fissures in the black lava rock. This was the palette of designer Jack Nicklaus, who shaped the 7,039–yard, par 72 championship course, carefully protecting and preserving the archaeological ruins within its borders. Teeing off from the cliffs at Hulopoe Bay with the Pacific surging below, you face perhaps the world’s most unforgiving water hazard. The twelfth hole is nothing short of a leap of faith, with 200 yards of churning waves to cross. Other holes demand shots over yawning ravines.

Saturday 29 August

GOLF AT WAILEA GOLD COURSE

The home course of The Champions Skins Game from 2001 to 2007, the 7,078-yard Wailea Gold is the most challenging of Wailea’s trio, with a rugged and masterful design that takes advantage of the terrain’s natural undulations. But four to six tee boxes on every hole also make it a suitable track for virtually every player. Created by architect Robert Trent Jones II, the Gold was honored by both Golf Magazine and Golf Digest as one of the country’s ten best new resort courses when it opened in 1994. It has also been recognized by the Maui Historical Society for its preservation of prehistoric lava rock walls during construction, and hailed as one of the world’s best designed courses by the readers of Conde Nast Traveler in the magazine’s first golf resorts poll. Called a “thinking player’s course,” the Gold offers a true test of one’s golf skills. But the most difficult hazards on it are the distracting island views. In one round, you can enjoy spectacular vistas of the ocean, Molokini islet, ancient lava rock walls, coconut trees and sparkling white bunkers.

GOLF AT ROYAL HAWAIIAN GOLF COURSE

Formerly known as Luana Hills, Royal Hawaiian is located on the east side of Oahu at the base of the Ko’ olau mountain range with Mt. Olomana in the background. The course is carved through a tropical rain forest and has beautiful views throughout. Royal Hawaiian Golf Course is best described

as playing golf in Jurassic Park without the dinosaurs! It all starts from the 1.5 mile drive through the magnificent rain forest to the clubhouse. You won’t find a more beautiful drive to a golf course anywhere. When you finally arrive at the course you will be amazed that a golf course could be built

in such paradise. The Pete and Perry Dye designed layout has contrasting nines, with a front side that features a rugged mountainous terrain and back nine a more open rolling terrain With a slope of 138 from the back tees and a distance of about 6,600 yards, this demanding track is an interesting mix of beauty and challenge. There are simply too many signature holes on this course to describe which is why playing Royal Hawaiian is definitely on our bucket list.

With its uninterrupted views of the Pacific and gentle rolling fairways, the Bay Course is sure to excite Golfers of all skill levels.

Challenge Manele Bay Course:

The spectacular natural setting of The Challenge at Manele guarantees an unforgettable round for every golfer who plays here. Perched atop 200-foot cliffs, the course offers dramatic views of the ocean from all 18 holes. Lush, green fairways are bordered by black lava outcroppings, reminders of the ancient origins of Lana’i. Carved out of the rugged coast, the Challenge at Manele sprawls across ancient lava fields, with 180-degree ocean panoramas from every hole. Red cliffs plunging down to blue sea, green fairways engulfing white sand traps, and blossoms from fissures in the black lava rock.

Fortunately, the five-tee concept – with courses of shorter yardage mapped in red, white, blue, gold and “Nicklaus” – allows golfers of all levels to emerge unscathed.

Wailea Gold Course:

Wailea Gold Course was the home course of The Champions Skins Game from 2001 to 2007.

The 7,078-yard Gold Course is the most challenging of Wailea’s three courses and plays to 7100 yards from the back tee’s. Designed by Robert Trent Jones II, the Gold was honored by both Golf Magazine and Golf Digest as one of the country’s ten best new resort courses when it opened in 1994. Known as a “thinking player’s course,” the Gold offers a true test of a golfers skills. You will enjoy spectacular vistas of the ocean, Molokini islet, ancient lava rock walls, coconut trees and sparkling white bunkers. The Maui Historical Society recognized the course for its preservation of prehistoric lava rock walls during construction, and hailed as one of the world’s best designed courses by the readers of Conde Nast Traveler in the magazine’s first golf resorts poll. The Gold’s 200 foot elevation change from top to bottom enhances the numerous ocean and mountain views available from virtually every hole.

Hawaii (Ohau):

The Koolau Mountains tower in your sightline.  Palm trees line the green.  The white of your golf ball pops against the deep blue sky.  Even a bad game of golf on Oahu is still pretty darn good! Blessed with breathtaking scenery, unforgettable signature holes and championship calibre course design, it’s no wonder that Oahu attracts so many golfers from around the world.

You may want to make a few adjustments to your game in the islands.  Most notably, Hawaii’s trade winds can exaggerate mistakes in your swing on a windy day.  Luckily, most Oahu courses have wide, forgiving fairways.  Bermuda greens can also be harder to read than traditional bentgrass greens.  All these factors help make for some fund and challenging rounds on the golfer’s heaven of Oahu.

Royal Hawaiian Golf Club:

From front nine to back nine; you journey from wide open spaces on hillsides below the magic mountain of Olomana, to dense tropical jungle that showcases Hawaiian flora and birds. Legendary Pete Dye and his son Perry have integrated crafty golf holes into tumbling terrain framed by ancient jungle trees upwards up of 100 feet tall at the foot of the Ko’olau Mountains in Oahu. The back nine builds to an exciting finish as it winds through leafy corridors to fast bentgrass greens; players are presented with tantalizing risk-reward scenarios, exemplified by the 386-yard par-four 6th and the 218-yard par-3 7th. With the lush tropical surroundings and few signs of civilization, locals refer to Royal Hawaiian as Jurassic Park, and it’s a hit with most everyone who plays it.

Ko Olina Golf Course:

The 18-hole Ko Olina Golf Club ranks among Hawai‘i’s finest golf experiences. The challenging Ted Robinson layout features expansive landing areas perfect for golfers of all skill levels, multi-tiered greens, cascading waterfalls and a picturesque ocean location. If you love golf, why not play on one of Hawaii’s most beautiful courses with views of the Waianae Mountains on one side and the Pacific Ocean on the other. It will be a memorable experience for any golfer.
