Day 1 (BARCELONA – LA SEU D’URGELL )
Departure to La Seu D’Urgell, a historic border city set in some beautiful regional countryside and positioned only 12kms from the border with Andorra. Overnight La Seu D’Urgell.
Day 2 (LA SEU D’URGELL )
Breakfast. Free day in this lovely town. Perhaps cross over the border into Andorra for some duty free shopping. Overnight La Seu D’Urgell.
Day 3 (LA SEU D’URGELL – UNCASTILLO )
Breakfast. Follow the winding road which takes you further across the lower Pyrenees towards San Sebastian, through some truly beautiful undulating countryside combining great mountain scenery and some interesting local towns and villages. The regions of Catalunya and Aragon are famous for their important heritage in Romanesque architecture, evident principally in the many well preserved historic churches which one can visit in the local villages along the way. Overnight in Uncastillo.
Day 4 (UNCASTILLO – SAN SEBASTIAN )
Breakfast. An easy morning to appreciate something of the town of Uncastillo, before setting off north-west toward the coast. A visit to the nearby Monastery of Leyre is recommended and then travel on to Pamplona for lunch and time for a wander. Continue to San Sebastian for overnight.
Day 5 (SAN SEBASTIAN )
Breakfast. A chance to enjoy the sights of magnificent San Sebastian, a city with enormous ambience, style and elegance. Take in the sea air and stroll the marvellous boulevards of the wonderful city, which displays all the charm of the Belle Epoque of the late 19th century. Overnight San Sebastian.
Day 6 (SAN SEBASTIAN – BAKIO )
Breakfast. You begin your journey across the northern coast to delightful Bakio just 22kms from Bilbao. From here you can visit Bilbao plus a number of superb fishing villages easily and do some interesting regional sightseeing. Overnight Bakio.
Day 7 (BAKIO (BILBAO) )
Breakfast. Another morning in Bakio with lunch before pushing on to Bilbao, a city which has received an incredible facelift over the last few years, bringing back its 19th century charm. Into this rejuvenated city came Frank Gehry’s stunningly attractive design for the Guggenheim museum, sitting majestically on the banks of the river as it winds through the city’s historic heart. Overnight Bakio.
Day 8 (BAKIO (BILBAO) – LLANES )
Breakfast. An easy morning and you journey on to Castro Urdiales and Laredo, opportunities for a brief visit. On to Santander, the capital of Cantabria region. A little further on you come to beautiful Santillana del Mar, where you might take some time for lunch and a stroll. Santillana is truly a classic example of the northern villages of the 16th and 17th centuries, with its most typical regional architecture. Continue across the coast to Llanes via San Vicente de la Barquera. Overnight Llanes.
Day 9 (LLANES )
Breakfast. A full day to relax in this idyllic coastal environment of the ‘Green Coast’ of Spain. Overnight Llanes.
Day 10 (LLANES – OVIEDO )
Breakfast. Travel west again along this attractive coast and through the beautiful seaside towns including Celorio before turning inland just prior to Ribadesella. This road takes you via Arriondas, Infiesto, Nava and Pola de Siero before arriving in Oviedo just in time for lunch. Oviedo is a charming city that has also recently undergone a significant facelift, with the creation of many public malls, re-painting, cleaning and restoration of important facades. The result is amazing, giving the city a brand new appearance. Overnight Oviedo.
Day 11 (OVIEDO – RIBADEO )
Breakfast. A morning to absorb this classic old provincial city of the north with its wonderful sedate 19th century ambience. Relax and take in the sights including its impressive monumental heritage both inside and outside the city. Continue on westward to Ribadeo, a good 2.5 hour run taking you via Luarca and Navia and many of the typical fishing hamlets along the northern coast. Overnight Ribadeo.
Day 12 (RIBADEO – LUGO – SANTIAGO )
Breakfast. Ribadeo is set in a prominent panoramic position on the river Eo and offers magnificent views across the estuary. Time for a leisurely stroll around town before heading inland on your last leg as you journey westward toward the historic city of Santiago de Compostela. You travel via Lugo with its medieval walls encircling the old town and where one must stop for lunch. It’s legendary ! Overnight Santiago de Compostela.
Day 13 (SANTIAGO DE COMPOSTELA )
Breakfast. Time to discover more of the historic features that make up the city’s character before continuing on to your next destination.
