Itinerary

Day 1

Arrive Nairobi.

Welcome to the Kenyan capital where you are transferred to your elegant boutique hotel in the charming residential area of Karen.
Accommodation: Hemingways Nairobi (Executive Room)

 

Day 2

Nairobi – Tarangire National Park.

Fly south to Kilimanjaro, Tanzania. Transfer by road (approx. 5hrs) to Tarangire National Park, home to one of the largest populations of elephants in Tanzania.

Day 3

Tarangire National Park.

This park is famous for its large herds of elephants which migrate through the park in search of water between July and October. A full day allows time for plenty of game viewing.

Day 4

Tarangire National Park – Ngorongoro Crater.

Depart Tarangire for the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Explore a vibrant local market and community on a tuk-tuk ride followed by lunch at Gibb’s Farm, a working coffee plantation in the highlands. Time to stretch your legs before the drive to your charming Cape Dutch style lodge.

Day 5

Ngorongoro Crater.

Descend into this vast extinct volcano whose towering walls are a natural enclosure for a dazzling abundance of wildlife. See wildebeest, zebra, buffalo and gazelle on the plains, waterbuck, bushbuck and eland in the forest, a healthy elephant population, black rhino, lion, leopard, hippo and flamingo. On return to your lodge stop at a traditional Maasai village.

Day 6

Ngorongoro Crater – Serengeti National Park.

This morning is a short flight to the world-famous Serengeti National Park. Depending on your month of travel, and the location of ‘The Migration’, A&K will recommend which camp is best suited for your stay.

Days 7–8

Serengeti National Park.

Enjoy two days exploring the never-ending savannah, where more animals roam than in any other place on earth. The Serengeti plays host to a wonderful spectacle each year – the annual migration of millions of wildebeest and zebra that follow the rains in a search for new pastures and water. This is an unforgettable experience for even the most seasoned African traveller.

Day 9

Serengeti National Park – Masai Mara National Reserve Kenya.

Fly to Tarime where you will be driven across the Kenya border to Migori and a flight into the Masai Mara National Reserve and on to the luxuriously reimagined Sanctuary Olonana, an exclusive hideaway set on a private stretch of the Mara River.

Days 10–11

Masai Mara National Reserve.

The next two days are spent exploring the Masai Mara – safari central! Game viewing may deliver some unique sightings – a pride of lion stalking its prey; or a herd of elephant protecting its young from opportunistic predators. Over the next two days, your camp guide accompanies you on early morning and late afternoon game drives. You will also be able to participate in the AKP Tree Planting Project or visit the neighbouring Maasai village or the AKP supported safe water in schools initiative.

Day 12

Masai Mara National Reserve – Depart Nairobi.

Return by air to Wilson Airport and transfer to Nairobi Airport.

Hemingways Nairobi

Hemingways Nairobi is the sister hotel to the famous Hemingways in Watamu. A plantation style property with views of the Ngong Hills is an exceptional place to stay be it for one or two nights in Nairobi. The staff are gracious and provide a seemless service that Hemingways, Watamu is famed for. The rooms are bright and large with beautiful bathrooms and the rooms have used the best of the natural light available, making guests feel that they are not staying in a city hotel.

The Manor at Ngorongoro

Set on the 1,500 acre Shangri-La coffee estate, Elewana The Manor at Ngorongoro is truly a unique experience. The Cape Dutch architecture and decor of the 20 luxurious guest cottages and the main Manor House, brings you back to a bygone era of elegance and splendour yet mixing it with the traditional East African safari experience. All of the 20 guest cottages have breathtaking views of the estate and are secluded to offer you all the privacy you would want. Sanctuary Kusini is the only permanent camp in this unspoilt and remote part of the Serengeti. Built around a spectacular rocky outcrop and on the path of the wildebeest migration, the camp is ideal for seeing the cheetah and wildebeest that congregate on the grassy plains in the calving season from mid-December to March. Accommodation is offered in 12 luxury tents, each attended by a personal butler with en suite facilities and hot running water.

Roving Bushtops is a mobile camp which is reloactes to different spots around the Serengeti according to the movement of the wildlife.
