Itinerary

The 12-day APT East Africa Safari begins in Nairobi before heading into Tanzania to explore the Ngorongoro Crater, visit Maasai communities, and tour Olduvai Gorge, then continues with several days of game drives through the Serengeti National Park. The journey then crosses into Kenya’s Maasai Mara for more wildlife viewing, including opportunities to see the Big Five and, in September, potentially parts of the Great Migration. Along the way, the tour combines luxury safari lodges, cultural experiences, bush dining, and scenic flights to reduce long travel times, before returning to Nairobi for a farewell evening and departure.

Day 1

Arrive NairobiArrive in Nairobi, Kenya’s vibrant capital, where you will be met and transferred to your luxury hotel. Spend the remainder of the day relaxing before meeting your expert Tour Director and fellow travellers in the evening as your unforgettable East African safari adventure begins.

Day 2

Nairobi to Ngorongoro CraterFly via Kilimanjaro to Tanzania before travelling by 4WD vehicle to your beautiful lodge near the Ngorongoro Crater. Surrounded by stunning scenery and peaceful landscapes, enjoy time to relax and settle into your safari experience before dinner.

Day 3

Ngorongoro CraterToday, explore the breathtaking Ngorongoro Crater, often referred to as “Africa’s Garden of Eden.” Enjoy a picnic lunch while discovering this UNESCO-listed natural wonder, home to an incredible concentration of wildlife including lions, zebras, wildebeest, gazelles, and more.

Ngorongoro Crater to KaratuImmerse yourself in local culture with a visit to Kilimatembo School near Karatu, supported through APT’s charitable initiatives. Later, visit a traditional Maasai village where you’ll learn about Maasai customs, daily life, traditional homes, local bush foods, and ancient cultural traditions.

Olduvai Gorge to Serengeti National ParkTravel to the world-famous Olduvai Gorge, known as the “Cradle of Mankind,” where you’ll enjoy a fascinating private tour exploring some of the earliest evidence of human history. Continue to the legendary Serengeti National Park, keeping watch for wildlife roaming across the endless plains.

Day 6

Serengeti National ParkRise early for an unforgettable sunrise game drive through the Serengeti, where you may encounter wildebeest, elephants, buffalo, giraffes, and more. Relax at your luxury lodge during the afternoon before setting out again for a spectacular sunset safari experience.

Day 7

Serengeti National ParkEnjoy another incredible day exploring the Serengeti ecosystem. Continue searching for iconic African wildlife while also discovering the park’s diverse birdlife, smaller mammals, and fascinating natural landscapes throughout the day.

Day 8

Serengeti to Maasai MaraBoard a scenic light aircraft flight to Kenya’s famous Maasai Mara. Upon arrival, embark on your first exciting game drive through the vast savanna before settling into your luxurious tented safari camp overlooking the beautiful Mara region.

Day 9

Maasai MaraExperience thrilling morning and afternoon game drives through the private Mara North Conservancy. Between safari activities, relax at camp and enjoy the peaceful surroundings, with opportunities to spot wildlife directly from your private deck.

Day 10

Maasai MaraSpend the day exploring the renowned Maasai Mara National Reserve, one of Africa’s most celebrated wildlife destinations. Enjoy exceptional game viewing opportunities before an unforgettable lantern-lit bush dinner featuring local specialties and traditional entertainment beneath the African night sky.

Day 11

Maasai Mara to NairobiFarewell the Maasai Mara as you fly back to Nairobi. Celebrate the final moments of your journey with fellow travellers before enjoying a private performance by the internationally acclaimed Kenyan Boys Choir, followed by a farewell toast.

Day 12

Depart NairobiAfter breakfast, your spectacular East Africa safari comes to an end. Transfer to the airport for your onward journey home, taking with you unforgettable memories of Africa’s incredible landscapes, wildlife, and cultures.
