Itinerary
Day 1
Arrive Munich, Germany
On arrival at Munich airport, after clearing customs, you are met by your English-speaking Guardian Angel and driver for the transfer to your hotel.

Day 2
Munich
A day exploring the Bavarian capital starting off with a walking tour through the compact Old Town centre with its multitude of shops, markets and always busy beer halls such as the “Hofbrauhaus” that Munich is so famous for. See the Karlsplatz fountain, the Frauenkirche – Munich’s Cathedral – as well as the Marienplatz with the New Rathaus and its chiming clock, playing daily. Afternoon at leisure.

Day 3
Munich – Landshut – Munich
Head out of town to Landshut where a wealth of architectural delights awaits. Experience the lively atmosphere of a modern, flourishing city with buildings dating from the Middle Ages and the Renaissance-Baroque period. See all the highlights, including the Church of St Martin, the tallest brick building in the world, and the Landshut Residence, a 16th century ducal palace. You may wish to walk the ‘Oxway’, leading from the Old Town up a hill to Trausnitz Castle. From here, enjoy some fantastic panoramic views over the city and the River Isar. Afterwards, there is still time to enjoy the town’s warm hospitality at one of its Mediterranean-style street cafés or idyllic Bavarian beer gardens for a sundowner, before returning to your hotel in Munich.

Day 4
Munich – Herrenchiemsee – Salzburg, Austria
Depart Munich by road heading east for Salzburg. Stop off at Chiemsee, Bavaria’s largest lake, where you make the short boat crossing to Herrenchiemsee Island. Visit Herrenchiemsee Palace, a summer palace built by King Ludwig II which was modeled partly on Versailles but never totally finished due to his early death. Marvel at the ornate gardens and fountains, the evocative setting and enjoy a guided inside visit before continuing to Salzburg.

Day 5
Salzburg
Explore the splendid ‘city of Mozart’ this morning on foot. See the most important sights in this ‘Mozart City’ such as the Getreidegasse and Mozart’s birthplace, the Pferdeschwemme (Royal Horse Trough) and St Peter’s Abbey and cemetery. Take the funicular railway up to visit the Hohensalzburg Fortress, the largest, fully preserved fortress in central Europe. See the lavish staterooms such as the Golden Room and enjoy marvellous views of Salzburg and the surrounding countryside. Continue to the Mirabell Palace and Gardens, best known for being part of the background in ‘The Sound of Music’. Afternoon at leisure.

Day 6
Salzburg
Follow in the footsteps of the von Trapp family as you take in the major sights which featured in ‘The Sound of Music’. Starting in Salzburg itself, see the Nonnberg Convent where Maria lived as a novice. Travel a short distance outside the city centre to Schloss Hellbrunn to visit the ‘Sound of Music Pavilion’ and see Schloss Leopoldskron, the most beautiful Rococo building in the Salzburg region. The façade of Leopoldskron, facing the lake, represented the von Trapp family home and grounds where the children went boating. Finally, drive past Lake Fuschl to St Gilgen and arrive at the small town of Mondsee to visit the cathedral in which the legendary wedding scene in the movie was filmed.
