A spree of “world’s longest flights" is on its way thanks to the new Airbus A350-900 Ultra Long-Range jet which is going to allow airlines to fly new time-saving routes without a halfway refuel.
The current extra-long routes include Qantas’ Airbus A380 from Sydney to Dallas and Qatar’s Boeing 777-200LR between Doha and Auckland.
However Singapore Airlines is looking to push the boundaries with a 19-hour stretch between Singapore and New York City on board the A350ULR. In a nod to previous, similar routes, Singapore Airlines CEO Mr Goh Choon Phong has stated that he is looking beyond the A340’s ‘all business class’ model, saying “It will probably be more than just business class, I think it will be a mix of cabin classes."
Singapore Airlines’ A350 will have around 170 seats – 80 less than the standard issue A350-900s which will begin to fly from Singapore to Amsterdam and Dusseldorf this year.
All seats on this A350 will be far more generous than what many will pictures – even in economy. This extends to Business Class which is anticipated to dominate the A350ULR and will feature the next-generation business class seat, a design due to be launched in 2017 and moving one generation beyond it’s industry leading model.
