The Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) has released its first preliminary investigation report into the QF32 Rolls-Royce Trent 900 engine failure over Indonesia on November 4 this year. The report confirmed that although some of the aircraft’s systems and components were damaged the pilots retained control and were able to land safely. The ATSB is thus satisfied with Qantas’ safety response. Qantas has stated it remains committed to working with Rolls-Royce on the Trent 900 inspection program, operates a full international and domestic schedule and with the Civil Aviation Safety Authority’s approval has returned two A380s to service.
