While in Port Douglas I visited four luxury hotels, The Thala Beach Lodge, Peppers Bale and Sea Temple. The Thala beach Lodge is located in the rain forest. The wood cabins are immersed in the surrounding nature and insects can be a real problem. Peppers Bale was by far the best. All villas are two or three bedroom but can be rented as a one bedroom. The new section of the resort contains four bedroom villas which are absolutely gorgeous. Each possesses a large pool, spacious garden and barbeque area and two ensuite. These are the best option for a family holiday. Sea Temple has nice apartments with a wonderful resort pool which can be accessed straight out the front door. Compared to Peppers Bale it is smaller but also cheaper while still maintaining an exclusive position next to golf course. Peppers beach club was similar to Sea Temples style with it being smaller than the others however its location next to town makes it a great place to stay.
The pick of the bunch was definitely Peppers Bale and if you can afford it I would recommend staying there. However all of them are located close to the golf course andbeach, although it is difficult to swim during stinger season from November to March without wearing wet suit.
