Important Update: Mandatory Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) for Visitors to Sri Lanka

Effective from 15 October 2025, all visitors traveling to Sri Lanka will be required to obtain an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) prior to arrival. The Visa on Arrival facility will be discontinued from this date onward.

To ensure a smooth and hassle-free entry into Sri Lanka, travelers are advised to complete their ETA application well in advance of their trip.

How to Apply

All ETA applications must be submitted online through the official government portal:

Processing Time

While ETA approval is generally processed within 1 to 24 hours, travelers are encouraged to apply at least one week before travel to avoid any last-minute issues.

Checking ETA Status

If you do not receive an email confirmation, you can check your application status online at:

If the ETA status is shown as “Approved", a screenshot of the approval can be used as a confirmation document when traveling.
