About Le Taha’a Private Island & Spa
Since its opening in July 2002, Le Taha’a Island Resort & Spa has gathered its share of industry honours and has been praised by several publications, including Condé Nast Traveler’s GOLD LIST of “The World’s Best Places to Stay” in January 2011. Part of the prestigious Relais & Châteaux collection, Le Taha’a welcomes you to a world of immaculate beauty, a timeless universe of sophistication and authenticity.
Located on the secluded Motu Tautau islet, facing the lush island of Taha’a on one side and the majestic silhouette of Bora Bora on the other side, the resort, inspired by traditional Polynesian architecture and style, hosts 57 remarkable suites and villas.
Defined by the Relais & Chateaux philosophy, Le Taha’a is the promise of a total change of scenery, a way of life of its own, in harmony with its preserved environment, people and local culture. Welcome to Le Taha’a world. The ultimate Tahitian hideaway.
The public areas are built in the trees, providing an exquisite view on the lagoon and Taha’a Island. Taha’a, with the rich aroma of vanilla lingering heavily in the air, offers a glimpse of traditional tranquil life of the Tahitians. The flower-shaped island’s simple beauty is charmed by soft mountain shapes and surrounded by tiny motu with bright sand beaches. In the fertile valleys cutting within the island, local farmers grow watermelon, vanilla and copra.
Location
“Uporu” island, known as Taha’a, is a wild little paradise located 230km west of Tahiti, in the Society Islands Archipelago. Rich with a multitude of treasures, Taha’a was once an object of rivalry between the kings of Bora Bora and Raiatea during the 18th and 19 centuries. Numerous archaeological sites attest this part of history. Over 40 sites and 100 structures, sometimes swallowed up by the blue lagoon, have so far been identified on the island.
Taha’a is often called the “Vanilla Island”. It is effectively responsible for 70% of Polynesia’s vanilla production, estimated at 25 tons per year. The precious vanilla orchid grows under the humid shade of Taha’s tropical forest. Taha is an island of passion, a land where men choose to live in harmony with nature, her generous gifts and unspoiled beauty.
Restaurants
There are three restaurants and two bars.
La Plage is located by the pool and beachside. Vanille and Ohiri are located in the heart of the resort among the trees. Vaille is the main restaurant and Ohiri is for fine dining.
Enjoy beach barbeques and Polynesian and seafood buffets accompanied with live entertainment.
Activities
Le Taha’a features and fresh water swimming pool. The pool is next to the beach and surrounded by decked and tiled areas with lounge chairs. it is serviced throughout the day by a pool bar and restaurant “La Plage”. The resort proposes two different boutiques: one which offers every day conveniences as well as a large sample of local handicrafts, and the other which features the natural jewels of the Pacific lagoons, the world famous black pearls.
There is also unforgettable Helicopter tours from Taha’a and Bora Bor, daily shuttle service and islands discovery excursions.
Romance
The most tender, romantic attentions are reserved for you by charm and refinement, exclusively dedicated to lovers to make each instant a great, exceptional moment!
From a private Motu picnic to the most romantic gourmet dinner on your suite terrace or on the beach, you are catered for unique “romance”.
Diving
The marine fauna is incredibly rich, varied and colourful. Underwater topography is also not without interest, with impressive depths, grottoes and crevices. One of the special features is the pressence of the Distichopora coral, which creates superb yellow and violet tones on the outward slopes.
There are more than 25 recorded sites around Taha’a and Raiatea, as well as localised dive sites at two of the either passes through the reef into the single lagoon shared by both islands.
