Huka Lodge offers just 25 rooms including 18 Junior Lodge Suites, one double Lodge suite, the four-suite Owner’s Cottage and the two-suite Alan Pye Cottage. The suites all enjoy uninterrupted views of the deep turquoise green waters of the Waikato River and offer every comfort from feather pillows and homemade biscuits to magnificent bathrooms with underfloor heating and generous dressing rooms. Tennis court, swimming and spa pools, Pétanque and croquet are also located within the grounds. In-room massages and spa treatments are also on offer.

Junior Lodge Suite

True retreats in every sense, harmonious and deliberately simple in approach. Designed to allow the beauty of the landscape to dominate, while providing layers of well-appointed luxury. Every last detail required for guest comfort has been carefully considered, from the finest monogrammed bed linen, and feather pillows, to the freshly baked biscuits.

French doors open onto the wooden terrace beyond and all 20 Junior Lodge Suites face the hypnotic deep turquoise-green waters of the Waikato River. Its long journey from Lake Taupo takes it flowing past Huka Lodge to the full force of the famous Huka Falls beyond, then on to the sea. The bathrooms offer every indulgence as well as being spacious and light, with the most decadent deep bath, thirsty towels, heated floors, and twin basins. Dressing rooms are both large and generous in proportion, with room to truly make yourself at home during your stay.

Owners Cottage

Four superbly decorated spacious en-suite guest rooms are anchored by a central living room, dining area, kitchen and den. The colour palette is deliberately muted with elegant use of soft cream and caramel hues for the walls and bleached oak wooden parquet floors throughout. This all contributes to an ambience of calm restful relaxation within the Cottage.

The Cottage displays work by some of New Zealand’s foremost artists – Max Gimblet, Mervyn Taylor, Don Binney, Paul Dibble and Dick Frizell to name a few. The entire retreat is furbished generously with unique pieces chosen for their comfort, beauty and history – like the wonderful 1920s French oak chairs in the living room.

Alan Pye Cottage
Alan Pye Cottage takes every advantage of a superb location and sits above lush rolling green lawns and manicured gardens on the banks of the Waikato River, where the powerful and hypnotic turquoise green waters surge downstream to the Huka Falls.

Built to exacting standards and utilising the finest quality heritage materials – cedar, heart timbers, stone and brick, the cottage draws on architectural elements from the 1920s and 1930s with strong reference to the sophisticated elegance of the English Arts & Crafts movement. This influence, in a contemporary re-interpretation, clearly pervades both the exterior and interior design of the Alan Pye Cottage.

Huka Lodge

A rich landscape of lakes, forests, waterfalls and mountains forms a stunning backdrop to this iconic New Zealand retreat, which has been delivering an extraordinary hospitality experience to the world’s most discerning travellers, since 1924.

Huka Lodge has long been considered one of the top retreats in the world, with an extensive and continuous list of prestigious awards bearing testament to this. Nestling within a riverside location of great natural beauty, guests find true relaxation and inner peace as the real world is left behind. Nurtured by gourmet food, fine wine and attentive service guests luxuriate within the privacy of 17-acres of manicured grounds, within a Garden of National Significance. With over 20 unique and deliberately romantic venues available for private dining, guests are spoilt for choice and every last detail is considered for their comfort. The charming Irishman Alan Pye founded Huka Lodge during the 1920s and it quickly established a reputation for the generous nature and style of its hospitality. This fine tradition continues to this very day with Huka Lodge still finding favour with the world’s most discerning travellers. Guests are made to feel very relaxed and within a ‘home away from home’ while staying at the Lodge, with service being both solicitous and anticipatory in nature. There is a strong desire to ensure that guests have a wonderful time during their stay at this iconic property.

Food & Wine
Every day our chefs decide what they will cook for you, based on what is the freshest and the very best. This is why Huka Lodge has a reputation for such fine food and publishes its own cookbooks. Our country-style breakfasts are legendary and form the basis of an active day. Lunch may be enjoyed at the lodge, or equally from a hamper made up for you, to take on your excursion. Breakfast, pre-dinner drinks and five-course dinner are included in our daily tariff. Special dietary requirements need to be advised in advance. Just across from the main Lodge building, under a knoll and down a short flight of steps is our wine cellar. With vaulted ceilings and four side chambers, it has an ambience all of its own. Cellaring for thousands of bottles of New Zealand and the world’s finest wines provides a remarkable backdrop to this dining space.

Activities
Activities available within the Huka Lodge grounds and outside the grounds include; fishing, horse riding, sailing, sky diving, jet boating, hunting, wilderness walks, white and black water rafting and more.
