The Hôtel Scribe Paris, which this year celebrates 150 years of history in the heart of Paris, is now officially five-star.

The Hôtel Scribe Paris had to satisfy a specification with more than 200 conditions to fulfill, including infrastructures, facilities, service and reception, in a bid to obtain its fifth star.

Traditionally, all the best hotels in Paris were officially only four-star – despite being entirely five-star in service and product – as there was little incentive to pay the higher taxes which were associated with five-star status.

To celebrate its impressive French history and five-star status, the Hôtel Scribe Paris will host a series of events between September and December to recall the great episodes of an equally fetching history. Even more festively than ever, the month of December will top off this very Parisian-style anniversary with events designed to highlight the theme of champagne.

Four months of events:

Culinary creations: From September through December, the Hôtel Scribe Paris’s three chefs, Sébastien Crison – Head Chef, Eric Barnerias – Head Pastry Chef and Christophe Simon – Head Barman, will combine their talents to produce an imaginative series of “nods” in tribute to the Scribe’s history. This will be a legend to be tasted, through innovative menus, snacks, tea times or cocktails and, just as in a period TV series, the Café Lumière will be decorated to depict the striking styles of these 150 years.

Four Symposia: A story-teller as well as an historian, the author of the book, L’Hôtel Scribe, une Légende au Coeur de Paris, will be present every month for a talk and open discussion on four major topics in the hotel’s history: the great period of the Jockey Club, the Hotel Scribe at the dawn of the modern age, writers and reporters of the Liberation, and 150 years in the life of a hotel.

Festive End-of-Year Holiday Time: Champagne will be the leitmotif of the Hôtel Scribe Paris ’s anniversary celebration throughout the entire month of December: decoration based on a campaigning theme, a champagne bar in the Café Lumière, and a champagne New Year’s eve feast – orchestrated by Chef Sébastien Crison, to close out the year.

The Hôtel Scribe Paris, located in the heart of Paris, close to the Garnier Opera and the Place Vendôme, is among the capital’s historic grand hotels. Erected in 1860, this year it celebrates its first 150 years and is publishing a book that recounts this century and a half of history as prestigious as it is captivating. The aristocratic headquarters of the Jockey Club, the birthplace of cinema in 1895, the headquarters for the most famous writers and photographers after Liberation and even the Parisian residence of Josephine Baker, the Hôtel Scribe Paris is an integral part of the hotel industry’s illustrious past.

Decorated by a veritable ambassador of French taste, Jacques Grange, the Hôtel Scribe Paris also occupies a privileged place in the Parisian hotel industry today. Finally, the Hôtel Scribe Paris won renown a long time ago for its service and reception, by appointing the first women caretakers and receptionists, and even by being responsible for the Golden Keys founded in 1952 by the hotel’s head caretaker.

Vincent Arnaud, the Hôtel Scribe Paris’s general manager is committed to pursuing this tradition of high standards, innovation and the art of entertaining.
