The inaugural Daikin Gold Coast Festival of Cycling, to be held 17Nov12-18Nov12, will attract top cyclists, including Tour de France riders, in a format that includes a challenging 102km ‘Gran Fondo’, and a 50km ‘Piccolo Fondo’. The two-day event encourages mass participation during tours through the Gold Coast hinterland, as well as junior and corporate events and a professional criterium.
Three-time Tour de France green jersey winner Robbie McEwen is ambassador and co-organiser for what he and his partners hope will develop into a major international event. Robbie has personally designed one of Australia’s most beautiful & challenging rides (plus a shorter, easier version – Piccolo Fondo).
They will hold part of their pre-season training camp on the Gold Coast and take parts in events supporting charities Variety and Careflight. Off-track festivities also include a golf day and gala charity dinner at RACV Royal Pines.
