Nara

Nara is an ancient capital city in Nara Prefecture, Midwest region of Kansai, Japan. This city was once the capital of Japan about 1,400 years ago. Just like its neighbouring cities Kyoto and Osaka, Nara has many ancient Buddhist buildings and artifacts. Nara is famous for its historic buildings, cute and friendly deer, and delicious local food. The perfect city to visit in Japan for travelers looking for a traditional Japanese city.

Nara offers a diverse range of activities whether it’s visiting the ancient temples or Nara Park to engage with the friendly Deers. There is a five-storied pagoda the Kōfuku temple that dates back to the year 710 that truely makes you feel like you have travelled back in time.

There are annual events that are quite interesting as they have deep links to Japanese culture. There is Omizutori the sacred water-drawing festival which is part of an event known as the Shuni-e held between February and March. The Shōsō-in exhibition is held in the Nara National Museum every Autumn. It showcases Shōsō-in treasures, every year 60 artifacts are carefully chosen.
