Hakone is located in Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan and is crowned by the peak of Mt. Fuji. The city gives an insight into Japan’s Beauty and being at the foot of the highest mountain, it offers spectacular views of the magnificent Mt. Fuji. Most of Hakone is within the borders of the volcanically active Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park centered on Lake Ashi. The Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park is a popular tourist destination exclusively known for its hot springs. The city’s unique beautiful flora and fauna has got it listed as a Geopark by UNESCO.
The place gives a huge thrill to its tourist with its array of activities and is known as a popular spa destination. The city of Hakone offers several sites to see. The most popular are Owakudani, Lake Ashi, Susuki-sogen of Sengokuhara, a stone Buddha and stone towers situated in Moto-Hakone, and cedar trees along Kyu-Kaido. Owakudani is an area around a crater created from the last volcanic eruption there is still a trace of the Hakone Volcano. Susuki-Sogen is a silver grass field spanning 18 hectares at the foot of Mount Daigatake. The best season to visit is October through to Mid-November and visitors can walk along a 700-meter trail through the field. Lake Ashi is a crater lake created by an eruption of Mount Kamiya about 3,000 years ago from the central peak of Hakone Volcano.
