Sedona’s Red Rocks is a natural feature that offers scenic famous views and is sacred as it is a part of the Supai Group. The area is made of lots of layers of red mudstone and sandstone that had been exposed to iron oxide staining the sediment over time. They merged in the early Permian period when the area was covered by a large desert and sea. The Sedona Rocks were later sculpted by water and wind creating the buttes, spires, and cliffs. These red rocks are famous for being the backdrop for many wellknown western movies and tv shows.
