American Airlines and US Airways could announce a merger as early Friday, according to US media reports Thursday. The Wall Street Journal reported last week that AMR Corp, American’s parent company, is in the final stages of talks with US Airways Group on a merger deal, and that an agreement could be reached by 15 February. Meanwhile a CBS station based in American’s hometown of Dallas, said it had learned that the new airline would keep the American Airlines name, but would be run by US Airways CEO, Douglas Parker.
