Day 1 (Madrid/Barcelona – Zaragoza – San Sebastian)
Departure from bus terminal to Zaragoza. Its fortuitous location on the fertile banks of the Rio Ebro ensured the ascendancy of Zaragoza, now Spain's fifth largest city and the capital of Aragon. Short stop. Continuation to San Sebastian. Gloriously situated on a neat, shell-shaped bay, San Sebastian is the most elegant and fashionable Spanish seaside resort. At either end of the bay is a tower-topped hill – Monte Urgull and Monte Igueldo. Dinner and accommodation Hotel Mercure Monte Igueldo 4*.
Day 2 (San Sebastian – Bilbao – Santander – Santillana – Colombres)
Breakfast. Departure to Bilbao. Short panoramic tour to admire the Guggenheim Museum building. Continuation to Santander. Of outstanding beauty and architectural note are the Casino and the Magdalena Palace, a summer palace built for Alfonso XIII. Free time. In the afternoon departure to Santillana del Mar, a city considered as a National Monument. The town grew up around the Romanesque monastery, which was an important pilgrimage centre. Short stop and continuation to Colombres. Dinner and accommodation Hotel San Angel 3*.
Day 3 (Colombres – Covadonga – Oviedo)
Breakfast. Departure through Picos de Europa mountains through splendid landscapes. Arrival to Covadonga with free time to visit the Shrine. An exceptionally beautiful scenic site from where the reconquest of Spain from the Moors was launched. Continuation to Oviedo. Oviedo is a university city and the cultural and commercial capital of Asturias. The nucleus of the medieval city is the stately Plaza Alfonso II, bordered by a number of handsome old palaces. Dinner and accommodation Gran Hotel Regente 4*.
Day 4 (Oviedo – Gijon – Lugo)
Breakfast. Departure to Gijon the second capital of the region of Asturias. The Christian Kingdom of Asturias was founded in the 8th century and therefore has many examples of Pre-Romanesque buildings. Short panoramic tour and continuation to Luarca, Ribadeo and Lugo in the Region of Galicia. Captured by Augustus in 1st Century BC, the provincial capital of Lugo still bears marks of its Roman occupation. A well preserved Roman wall surrounds the entire town. Dinner and accommodation Gran Hotel Lugo 4*.
Day 5 (Lugo – Salamanca – Madrid)
Breakfast. Departure to Salamanca, a wonderful University town with great traditions and a magnificent old quarter. Short stop to wander around the famous Plaza Mayor. Continuation to Madrid. End of services.
