Itinerary

Day 01 Arrive Arusha/Kilimanjaro

Jambo to Tanzania. A&K meet and greet and private transfer to your lodge (D).
Arusha Coffee Lodge

Day 02 Arusha – Lake Eyasi

This morning your A&K safari driver/guide greets you and your adventure begins! Travel in your private A&K Landcruiser south west to the remote shores of Lake Eyasi, a giant soda lake located in one of the oldest parts of the eastern Rift Valley and rarely explored by travellers. A little oasis surrounded by palm and acacia forests, your ‘home’ is a perfect base to discover the endangered Wahadzabe tribe. Small in stature and speaking an ancient click language, these traditional hunter-gatherers reside in the Lake Eyasi region. This afternoon visit their village to be introduced to these unique people (B,L,D).
Kisima Ngeda

Day 03 Design Your Day Lake Eyasi

Today you may choose from one or both of the activities. To learn more about the Wahadzabe tribe rise early and head out on a walk to hunt and gather for the morning. A unique experience. Visit the Wahadzabe blacksmith in the afternoon as he works in the traditional way with homemade bellows. Or you may like to relax and bird watch on the camp platform next to the spring (also a romantic spot for dinner!). Make sure you’re in camp in time for sunset, with sundowners on the rock overlooking the lake. You may also see the pair of resident hippo (B,L,D).
Kisima Ngeda

Day 04 Lake Eyasi – Ngorongoro Crater

This morning your safari driver/guide takes you to the spectacular Ngorongoro Crater, home to around 30,000 animals with a high concentration of predators. Descend the steep escarpment onto the crater floor for a half day of game viewing. To avoid the hustle and bustle of the assigned picnic site in Ngorongoro, A&K arranges a private picnic site for you on the far side of the hippo pool, set in the shade of the yellow acacia woodlands (B,L,D).
Ngorongoro Crater Lodge

Day 05 Ngorongoro Crater

Today you may choose one or both of the following activities: return to the crater floor for a further half day of game viewing; take the opportunity to sleep in; during the afternoon you may wish to relax in your lodge surrounds; or visit a Maasai village to be introduced to this unique and colourful culture (B,L,D).
Ngorongoro Crater Lodge

Day 06 Ngorongoro Crater – Olduvai Gorge – Serengeti National Park

A full day as your Tanzania safari driver/guide takes you to the ‘Cradle of Mankind’ at Olduvai Gorge. It was here in 1979 that Mary and Louis Leakey uncovered a hominid skull dating 1.8 million years. Your guide has arranged for you to descend into the gorge itself and view the actual dig sites and current findings. From the gorge drive to the shifting sands, a mound of black volcanic ash that has been pushed by the prevailing winds. Your game adventure starts again as you drive into the endless wilderness of the Serengeti National Park (B,L,D).

Day 07 Serengeti National Park

On the endless grasslands roam more animals than anywhere in the world – there are over a million wildebeest alone! Depending on the time of the year your A&K safari driver/guide will take you out either on an early morning and late afternoon game drive or on a full day drive. The Serengeti plays host to a wonderful spectacle each year – the annual migration of millions of wildebeest and zebra following the rains in their continual search for grass and water – an unforgettable experience for even the most seasoned African traveller! (B,L,D).

Day 08 Serengeti National Park – Arusha/Kilimnajaro

Insider Access

Olduvai Gorge was made famous by Mary and Louis Leakey’s discovery of the fossil fragments traced to an ancestor of the Homo Sapiens, establishing Tanzania as the ‘Cradle of Mankind’. The fossils, dated to 3.5 million years old, pushed the dawn of mankind further back than previously thought. Not open to general visitors, descend into the gorge and view the actual dig sites and current findings. From the gorge drive to the shifting sands, a mound of black volcanic ash that has been pushed by the prevailing winds at a distance of 5 metres per year.
