Accommodation
An ancient peaceful soul, entrenched deep into the earth’s core of Central Java, rises up through the misty volcanic terrain touching the elements of centuries past and present, leaving a tangible softness in its mystical wake. It is here, in the depths of the rural verdant countryside that Amanjiwo resides, facing the world’s largest Buddhist sanctuary, the 8th century Borobudur and the mystical hill, Tidar, believed to house the spirit and geographical centre of Java. Four whispering volcanoes rise dramatically in the distance surveying the resplendent circular limestone monolith, the tranquil heart of Amanjiwo, while the gentle Menoreh Hills rise directly behind.
Suites
Amanjiwo’s remarkable rendezvous with its natural environment is evident throughout the resort, the heart of which lies within its open circular monolith, crafted from paras yogya (local volcanic limestone from Yogykarta), as it liberally breathes in the Javanese country air.
Thirty-six suites are designed in two deep crescent formations rimmed with high limestone walls, crawling with spider lilies and lilac and cream convolvulus, that curve into stone walkways connecting the suites with the Pool Club and main building.
The suites are domed with volcanic ash tinted roofs, serenading their ancient neighbours and in particular Borobudur itself. A four-pillared bed is raised on a terrazzo platform which moulds into the smooth expanse of caramel mapped terrazzo floor and local materials and artefacts; coconut wood, hand carved furniture, exotic Javanese textiles and antique glass paintings, are meticulously placed to soothing effect. Sliding glass doors open out onto garden terraces featuring the intensely special views and a thatched-roof bale or pavilion provides the perfect opportunity for dining or just relaxing, while 15 of the suites have private swimming pools.
Garden Suites
There are 10 Garden Suites in varying locations with views of the Menoreh Hills and terraced farmland. Each suite category has the same size and room configuration as well as all the amenities and interior features mentioned above.
Borobudur Suites
Ten Borobudur Suites offer enhanced views of the Borobudur temple and the surrounding valley.
Garden Pool Suites
Six Garden Pool Suites have views of the Menoreh Hills and surrounding farmland. The natural stone pool stretches from the bedroom toward the outdoor pavilion. The pool is six metres by three.
Borobudur Pool Suites
All eight suites in this category have views of Borobudur and Java’s most sacred mountains – Merapi, Merbabu, Sumbing and Sindoro.
The Dalem Jiwo Suite
This retreat is set in a discrete enclosure complete with a private entrance, a classically styled rotunda and surrounding terrace with two separately walled bedrooms, each with stone steps descending to the suite’s private swimming pool and its two lounging bales. The 15m infinity pool, finished in a green Javanese stone known as hijau danau, is set into the rice fields. The Dalem Jiwo personal butler, always on call, has separate quarters in the enclosure
