Burgundy’s wine auctions – France
Enjoy the Côte d’Or region and the so called “Champs Elysées” of Burgundy, the route of the “Grands Crus” from “Côte de Nuits ” to “Côte de Beaune”. You will taste the finest grands crus and 1er cru wines. You will enjoy the visit of the famous “Hospices de Beaune” and the château “Clos Vougeot”.
The Hôtel-Dieu was founded on 4 August 1443, when Burgundy was ruled by Duke Philip the Good (Philippe le Bon) . Nicolas Rolin, the Duke’s Chancellor, and his wife Guigone de Salins, decided to create a hospital and refuge for the poor.
One of the unique characteristics of the Hospices Civils de Beaune is their wine producing estate. Most of these vineyard plots are located in prestigious appellations. They are nearly all first growths and great growths.
Although the wine-growing domain is over five centuries old, the auction only dates from 1859.
Two days before the picturesque «sale by candle», the wine tastings take place in the Hospices cellars. In the Hôtel-Dieu this activity reawakens all the charms of these centuries-old cellars. A dinner party in honour of Bacchus closes the festivities, in the superb setting of the medieval Bastion.

The 4 day-3 night wine tour for independants and small groups includes:
- 3 night accommodations from Friday 19Nov10 and departure on Monday 22nd in the morning. Deluxe rooms based on double occupancy;
4 star hotel Chateau de Gilly in Vougeot (including breakfasts); - all sightseeing tours and entrance fees and wine tastings as mentioned in each of the programmes; and in particular entrance tickets to access:
- the tasting of the wine from the barrels at the Hospices de Beaune prior to the wine auction
- the annual wine tasting exhibition of famous vintages in Beaune
- the visit of the Hospice de Beaune
- the visit of the Chateau du Clos de Vougeot
