Nestled on Bali’s southern peninsula, on a hillside overlooking Nusa Dua and the expansive sweep of the Indian Ocean, Amanusa is a secluded beach resort 15 mintues from Denpasar’s international airport and close to some of Bali’s main entertainment and shopping areas, Kuta, Legian and Seminyak. Guests can spend the day basking in one of 10 private bales on one of Nusa Dua’s best beaches or, mere steps away, enjoy a round of golf at the Bali Golf and Country Club.

Introduction

Amanusa (which means “peaceful isle” and opened in 1992) enjoys a commanding position on a garden hillside in southern Bali just above the Bali Golf and Country Club. Views run from the adjacent Indian Ocean shoreline to sacred Mount Agung that dominates the far horizon on a clear day.

The entrance to the lobby is a colonnaded open-air hall lined with baskets of white tuberoses. Framing the foyer is a teak sculpture illustrating scenes from the Ramayana, one of the two great epic poems of India.

Amanusa is well sited for starting or ending a tour of Bali as it is only 15 minutes south of Denpasar International Airport. It is also an ideal base to explore the nearby beaches of Sanur, Legian and Kuta, which have the most established shops and restaurants on the island.

Food and Dining

The Terrace offers sweeping views of Bali, embracing the golf course, the Indian Ocean, Nusa Dua and the Bukit, which is Bali’s southern peninsula. During the day it is open for breakfast and lunch, serving a variety of Asian and Continental dishes, while in the evenings it offers a range of Indonesian and Thai dishes. Just below, the Restaurant specialises in Mediterranean cuisine, which is served in an elegant room with high ceilings or in the outdoor courtyard surrounded by flowering frangipani trees which overlook the pool.

Cooking Tours and Classes : The day starts with an early morning trip to the local vegetable and fish markets where guests can choose ingredients. Next, the cooking class takes a detour through the Jenggala glass and ceramic factory and then to see some coffee being roasted. Back at Amanusa, guests are shown how to cook their favourite Indonesian dishes. Participants get to enjoy their creations over lunch.

Facilities

The Beach Club: This is located on the beachfront of the Bali Golf and Country Club. The Club consists of ten bales, each with two sun loungers. Refreshments, light meals, showers and washrooms are provided. The sand beach is one of Bali’s best and is fringed by a coral reef. Snorkelling equipment and kayaks are available. The Beach Club is also the setting for candlelit barbecues, and sunrise breakfasts can be enjoyed in the privacy of the bales .

Swimming Pool: The large 24m blue pool is bordered by a bougainvillea-covered trellis, flowering frangipani trees and a high paras-stone wall.

Surfing:The Nusa Dua reef is one of the premier reef breaks in Bali and is visible from the Terrace. The surfing season runs from December to April and equipment and instruction can be arranged on arrival.

Library: The library specialises in books on Indonesian art and culture and also offers an extensive CD and VCD selection. A laptop computer is available for e-mail and Internet access.

Boutique and Gallery: Balinese and Indonesian craft and antiques as well as other gift items are available.

Tennis : Amanusa’s two, all-weather tennis courts are floodlit for evening play. Attendants are available as playing partners or ball boys. A bale is located between the courts for shady breaks of iced chrysanthemum tea and refreshments.

Massage is available in the privacy of your suite, in the specially-designated massage suite or on one of the Beach bales . Body treatments as well as facials, pedicures and manicures are also available. Amanusa’s reiki master is on hand to redress any energy imbalances and a reflexologist is available once a week.
