Day 1 – Depart Auckland 7pm

Known as the ‘City of Sails’ with its two harbours, the city is multicultural and diverse, and offers an abundance of activities, sights and experiences. To appreciate the cityscape, take a trip 192 metres high up to the Sky Tower.  After lunch, board Silver Shadow, your home away from home for the next 15 days.

Day 2 – Bay of Islands

Farms, forests, beaches, harbours, towns and rugged coastlines encompass the area known as the Bay of Islands. Taking a tour is the best way to explore the diverse scenery of this region. Learn about the 800 years of Maori Heritage with a tour of the history of the Maori people or, visit the Bay of Vines wine region.

Day 3 – Tauranga

Tauranga has much to offer visitors.  A variety of excursions is offered today, including a visit to the famous thermal waters of Rotorua and Te Puia. For the adventurous, a hiking tour to the top of Mount Maunganui to discover the history, landmarks and wildlife of this region. Foodies are also catered for, exploring the scenery and tastes of the Bay of Plenty.

Day 4 – Gisborne

Located on the north island, history plays a big part of this laid back town.  Captain Cook made his first landfall here, John Harris set up his first trading station, and today Gisborne is the major centre of Maori cultural life. With its picture-perfect beaches, spectacular beach cliff views and easy walks from the centre of town to the Titirangi Reserve, you’ll marvel at the 180 degree views.

Day 5 – Napier

Wander the stylish streets of the world’s art deco capital during your time in Napier. Located on Hawke’s Bay, Napier enjoys a generous Mediterranean-style climate and a breezy cafe culture. A green, outdoor town, wander the tree-lined seafront of Marine Parade. Take the gentle hike up to Bluff Hill, for panoramic views over the lively Napier Port and out towards Cape Kidnappers – given its name following a clash between Captain Cook’s settlers and the local Maori population. Visit the wineries or take a spectacular helicopter ride high above Hawke’s Bay.

Day 6 – Wellington

The capital of New Zealand, Wellington is a compact city which is easily accessible by foot. Bars, cafes, the waterfront, Wellington is known as the creative hub of the South Pacific. Its iconic image is of the red cable car that takes you up to the city’s best viewpoint.  You can enjoy a half-day tour to acquaint yourself with the city, or for Lord of the Rings fans, there is an excursion to the locations and settings of where many scenes were filmed.

Day 7 – Akaroa

There are many stunning places on the coast of New Zealand, but none of them can quite surpass Akaroa. Surrounded by natural wonders, the town stands on a peninsula formed by two volcanic cones. With pretty painted cottages and balconies, and street names such as Rue Lavaud and Fleur Lane, you could be forgiven for thinking that you have stepped onto the streets of Provence. The French connection began here in 1838.  Your day has many options for exploring the quaint streets of Akaroa town, or heading into historic Christchurch, less than 50 kilometres away.

Day 8 – Dunedin ( Port Chalmers)

Dunedin is a cosmopolitan city of culture and architectural splendour, located in Otago Harbour on the south-easterly coast.  Settled by the Scots in 1848, bagpipes echo down the streets in what is called the Edinburgh of the South.  Spend your day in the city exploring Gothic revival architecture which is scattered throughout the city, including the university with its incredible clock tower, and head out on an excursion to view the Otago Peninsula with its rugged beauty and its wildlife.

Day 9 – Stewart Island

Located at the South Island’s southern tip, the majority of New Zealand’s third-largest island is National Park. Sunsets and sunrise are magical, and it is here that you will witness the Southern Hemisphere’s version of the Northern Lights.  The majority of Stewart Island has been claimed by dense forests, which conceal wonderful wildlife watching opportunities. Hiking is the best way to see the rugged beauty of this island.

Day 10 – Cruising Doubtful Sound

The only way to reach Doubtful Sound is by water, crossing Lake Manapouri. Because of the Sound’s inaccessibility, you’ll encounter very few people as you float through the silent waterways.  Because of the lack of human interaction, animals have been given a free rein here. The dense forest is rife with wildlife. In the water, you can expect to see fur seals, pods of bottlenose dolphins and perhaps the occasional whale and albatross.

Day 10 – Cruising Milford Sound

Located within the South Island’s Fiordland National Park, Milford Sound is not a sound but a fjord with a length of approximately 16 kilometres and a depth of more than 290 metres. As the ship sails through, you will take in the beauty of the steep cliffs, impressive waterfalls and dense rainforest vegetation. Look out for bottlenose dolphins, fur seals and penguins along the way.

Days 11 & 12 – At Sea

Two days of relaxation. Work out at the Fitness Centre, enjoy a leisurely lunch, lay by the pool with a good book, or meet up with new friends at the Panorama Lounge.

Day 13 & 14 – Melbourne

With an overnight stop, you have two days to make the most of Australia’s cultural capital. Soak up the atmosphere at award-winning restaurants, art galleries,  museums, roof-top bars and fabulous cafes.  Choose from the list of shore excursions that will take you out of the city – to areas such as the Yarra Valley Food and Wine region, beautiful Dandenong Ranges or the Iconic Twelve Apostles.

Day 15  – At Sea

Relax in the Observation Lounge, shop at the Boutique, and take in the daily entertainment options available throughout the ship.

Day 16 – Sydney

Arrival into Sydney Harbour is like no other. Now that you have ticked this off your list, enjoy all that Sydney has to offer. Iconic landmarks and beaches, the awe-inspiring harbour and a trip to the world-renowned Blue Mountains.

Silver Shadow

Award-winning Silver Shadow has all the hallmarks of extreme luxury at sea. With one of the highest space-to-guest ratios at sea, Silver Shadow is a firm favourite in the Silversea fleet.

Authentic experiences. Simple pleasures. Shared moments. Silversea’s Millennium Class luxury cruise ships Silver Shadow and Silver Whisper offer you freedom and space to design your day. Slightly larger in size than ships Silver Cloud and Silver Wind, Silver Shadow retains Silversea’s essence – spacious suites, a complement of only 388 guests, superior service – paired with a lively cosmopolitan atmosphere and enhanced amenities. Aboard the Silver Shadow, energize body and soul with complimentary Pilates and yoga in the expanded fitness center.
