The Gritti Palace

The Gritti Palace will stand as a refined version of its iconic self:  82 magnificently restored accommodations, each a work of Venetian art in itself, including a collection of 21 sumptuous suites. Of these, ten unique suites are inspired by famous past guests such as Hemingway, Somerset Maugham, Ruskin, and Peggy Guggenheim, after art and cultural institutions such as Punta della Dogana, La Fenice, and by traditional festivities such as the Redentore Suite, whose one-of-a-kind 250m rooftop terrace affords views of the Grand Canal, the Giudecca island, and southern lagoon.  All rooms have been updated with the latest in state-of-the-art technology.

Deluxe Room

Gracious and elegant, Deluxe Rooms surround guests with the history and intrigue of five centuries of Venetian life. Glass chandeliers hang from high ceilings, large windows illuminate a selection of antique furnishings with natural daylight, and Venetian fabrics by Lorenzo Rubelli decorate walls rich with untold stories of the palazzo’s illustrious past.

Venetian Room

Symbolic of the splendor of the Most Serene Venetian Republic in its 18th-century heyday, Venetian Rooms exude a historic richness and individual personalities that transport occupants back in time. Boasting jewel box designs in opulent and eclectic Venetian style, these romantic rooms are decorated with hand-painted ceilings, wooden wall boiserie and pastel-coloured furniture featuring hand-painted floral motifs. Expertly restored glass mirrors and appliques of Murano tradition, precious silk damask archival design fabrics by Lorenzo Rubelli in blues, pinks and cream, oil portraits, and heritage headboards add to the dreamy atmosphere.

Giglio Prestige Room

Giglio Prestige rooms, with captivating views of neighbouring Santa Maria del Giglio Square and its neo-classical church of the same name, are a private haven in which to relax.  Decorated with splendid stuccos and hand-restored Murano glass chandeliers, the ceilings sit high over large windows enclosed by silk and velvet drapes and wall fabrics of Lorenzo Rubelli archival design. Oak parquet floors showcase a heterogeneous collection of rare antiques, prints and oil paintings, and Venetian mirrors from the hotel’s private collection.

Landmark Grand Canal Room

With privileged settings overlooking Venice’s Grand Canal and views to the city’s rich patrimony of extraordinary architectural wonders, the nine Landmark Grand Canal rooms place you in the centre of a unique canvas that encompasses Punta della Dogana, Santa Maria della Salute Basilica, the Peggy Guggenheim Collection, and many other historic palazzi. Venetian stucco or Rubelli custom designed silk damask walls frame oak parquet and heritage terrazzo floors, whilst oil paintings, antique Venetian mirrors and furniture reflect in masterly restored glass chandeliers from Murano.

Sestiere Suites

Sestiere Suites take their names from the six Sestieri, or areas, that compose the historical centre of Venice. Including a separate living area, the Sestiere suites feature exquisite oak wood parquet or polished heritage terrazzo floorings.  Unique and intimate in ambience, the suites’ rich and eclectic 19th-century style is complemented by walls decorated in Venetian stucco and hung with oil paintings and antique Venetian mirrors, glass chandeliers from Murano, and precious archival fabrics designed by Lorenzo Rubelli.  

Serenissima Suites

Referencing historical elements of Venice and The Gritti Palace, the hotel’s Heritage Suites offer views over Campo Santa Maria del Giglio from their private stand up-balcony. The Coppa Volpi Suite is named after the trophy awarded each year by the Biennale of Venice. It boasts an impressive collection of films that have won this prestigious award. Black and white photography referencing films and the recipients of the Coppa Volpi throughout the Venice International Film Festival’s history add to the atmosphere. The La Fenice Suite honours the city’s famous opera house, Gran Teatro La Fenice. Jacquard and sumptuous Lorenzo Rubelli custom fabrics that were created originally for La Fenice Theatre feature alongside a rare antique hand-painted harpsichord, Neoclassical and Empire style furniture, and antique carpets.

Designed in an eclectic 19^th Century style reminiscent of the European Grand Tour, Serenissima Suites include a spacious living room. Oil paintings, precious antiques and rich furnishings decorate the suite bedrooms and living rooms, while natural sunlight from large windows creates a warm atmosphere in which to feel at home. The Serenissima Suites at The Gritti Palace celebrate the historic naval power of the Most Serene Venetian Republic, and take their names from famous naval battles during the Republic’s various Crusades.

Patron Grand Canal Suites

Named after patrons of art, design and literature, Patron Canal Suites at The Gritti Palace immerse guests deep into the cultural and artistic roots of the city and this noble palace. The Peggy Guggenheim suite honors the legendary collector, once a frequent visitor to the hotel. The palazzo that houses her collection can be seen from the suites two balconies. The John Ruskin suite bears an authentic oil painting of the renowned art historian, and the expansive Punta della Dogana suite offers a finely restored selection of antiques from The Gritti Collection. Finally, the Donghia suite embraces a sophisticated interpretation of the minimalist style of American interior designer Angelo Donghia.

Pisani Suite

Occupying a corner position on the hotel’s piano nobile, the Pisani Suite delights with spectacular views, named after the noble family who originally owned the palazzo. Floor-to-ceiling French doors on each side of the Pisani Suite’s living room lead onto stand-up balconies to better enjoy the magnificent vision of beauty and architectural wonders that lie beyond. Meticulously restored antique chandeliers from Murano island dominate the spacious living area which features heritage terrazzo Veneziano flooring, plush velvet lounge suites, a dining table, and a Bang and Olufsen entertainment system.

Terrazza Redentore Suite

The Terrazza Redentore Suite is a spectacular two storey suite with an unparalleled 250sqm. rooftop terrace. A private elevator whisks guests from the main lobby of the hotel directly up to the suite’s cosy attic apartment which is composed of a living room featuring affrescos, and a bedroom decorated with precious fabrics of Lorenzo Rubelli design.

An internal circular staircase unites the suite’s main apartment with its rooftop terrace in white Istrian stone, featuring an intimate pool overlooking the Grand Canal. This one-of-a-kind rooftop terrace is the perfect spot for entertaining al fresco, for celebrations, and one of the most exclusive private venues in the city for viewing the Redentore Celebration fireworks which take place every July.

Somerset Maugham Royal Suite

Inspired by the English playwright and novelist W. Somerset Maugham, an illustrious and frequent guest of The Gritti Palace, this suite welcomes its residents as old friends. The Suite features five floor-to-ceiling French doors that open onto a stand-up balcony that runs the length of the suite itself, and which affords magical views of the Grand Canal. 

Stucco decorations reminiscent of the Venetian Rococò grace the walls and ceiling cornices of this one-of-a-kind suite which is embellished with recreations of historic fabrics from the early 20th Century, an eclectic ensemble of meticulously restored antiques, majestic glass chandeliers from nearby Murano island, and of course, a collection of works by Somerset Maugham.

Hemingway Suite

In the Presidential Suite that bears his name, Ernest Hemingway, who considered The Gritti Palace his home in Venice during the late 1940’s and early 1950’s, composed many passages of his novel “Across the River and Into the Trees."

Floor-to-ceiling French doors open onto stand-up balconies that afford rare views of the Grand Canal. Evoking the sense of place of a Venetian Palace on the Grand Canal during the 18th Century, the suite’s imposing design features stucco walls and ceiling cornices with Venetian Rococò motifs, and Ernest Hemingway’s own club chair.

The Gritti Palace is set in a former noble residence on Venice’s Grand Canal, with views of Santa Maria delle Salute Church.
