Location
Located on Taveuni Island, Tides Reach Resort is secluded, yet convenient as a travel destination. The third largest island in Fiji, Taveuni is home to forests, beaches, wildlife, & crystal clear 87 degree water. This national park island provides activities for all. You will know you’ve arrived in paradise.
Activities
Fishing
Guest can choose to experience hand line fishing, deep sea fishing in their 28 foot Edgewater, or spear fishing in the crystal clear water around Taveuni. Please inquire for rates for deep sea fishing charters as well as spear fishing trips. We provide all equipment, guides, and their boats will leave directly from the beach, steps from your villa.
Hiking & Nature
Taveuni is mainly national park, with huge portions of pristine waterfalls, hikes, coastal walks and more. Day trips to the Bouma waterfalls, or the Lavena Coastal Walk are fun for children as well as adults looking for adventure. There are also natural waterslides on the West Coast tour.
For the more adventurous, a hike into the old volcanic crater at the peak of the island will be an all day event, and a chance to see the rare Tagimoucia flower, blooming here during the winter months, the only place on Earth where it blooms. The high rainfall, cooler temperatures and the fertile soil, provides a large biodiversity of tropical plant species within the lowland and montane rainforest.
The largely unexplored forests and mountains contain several known species of palms, ferns, orchids and other plants not found elsewhere on earth. The most famous of which is the rare Tagimoucia flower. Found on the shores of Lake Tagimoucia (in Bouma NP) from September through to December. Known in Fijian, as the “Flower of Love”, it has a traditional Fijian legend attached to it. These beautiful flowers come in two varieties of red and white flowers and grow nowhere else in the world. In the past botanists have tried to propagate it in other parts of the world but to no avail.
Horse-riding
Guests can enjoy horseback riding around the island, and on the beach. The staff will arrange and coordinate horseback riding offsite.
Surfing
The surf in Fiji is world class, and guests at Tides Reach Resort will have the opportunity to use SUP or standard surf boards at a number of breaks in the area. Beginners, children can stand up paddle in front of the resort, where there are very small and gentle waves to learn on. Advanced surfers will take a boat around to an outer reef break, about 20 minutes away. The surf here is a long, hollow right hand reef break, as well as a left on the other side of the channel (left breaks more rarely). The right has been surfed by many professional surfers and can be a 200 yard hollow wave when the conditions are right. Boats will leave directly from Tides Reach with packed lunch and drinks for a day or half day of surfing. Stand up paddle boards are available, as well as some standard short boards, but experienced surfers who have their eye on the forecast are encouraged to bring their own boards.
