Re-opening on October 11, 2010, LIULI CHINA MUSEUM is located at 25 Taikang Road, the heart of the Tianzifang arts and crafts enclave. The museum aims to be a people’s museum, so it is nicknamed “the museum in the community". This Shanghai’s sole LIULI arts museum was founded by eminent artists Loretta H. Yang and Chang Yi. Standing 14.7 meters tall and occupying 2,400 square meters, it is a unique venue for viewing art, research and education, reading, event promotion, shopping and dining.
The first floor of the museum is occupied by a restaurant, gift shop and bookstore; the museum’s second and third floors are the main exhibition areas, the heart of “the story of Chinese LIULI". The museum contains over 262 pieces of the LIULI artifacts from Warring States to Qing dynasty. It also holds an extensive collection of LIULI from key international and domestic artists, and artist Loretta H. Yang’s anthology of Buddhist designs and the museum’s pièce de résistance, a large-scale Buddhist sculpture of the Guanyin of the Thousand Eyes and Thousand Arms inspired by a Yuan dynasty’s mural from the caves of Dunhuang. The museum also houses a screening room and places used for small events. LIULI CHINA MUSEUM offers local and international patrons a place to view, understand and embrace the beauty of LIULI art.
