In early 2005 the ms Statendam was taken for a massive upgrade and refurbishment. The ms Statendam was one of the first ships in the Holland America Line fleet to benefit from the $225 million "Signature of Excellence" enhancements. This included the introduction of a "Culinary Arts Program" designed to appeal to gourmet food and wine lovers. Featuring guest chefs from local ports on each itinerary the "Culinary Arts Program" combined entertainment with practical experience. Lavish amenities were added to each stateroom to ensure that guests are pampered in every possible way.

Further enhancements include the introduction of the Pinnacle Grill, serving Pacific Northwest specialties, an alternative dining options.
