Itinerary
Day 1: Arrive Ulaanbaatar
Arrive into the Mongolian capital where you are met and transferred to the hotel.
Accommodation: Shangri-La Hotel (Deluxe room)
Day 2: Ulaanbaatar
This morning visit Gandan Monastery, the seat of Buddhism in Mongolia. Stroll through the monastery grounds, hear the low tones of the horns used to call the lamas to the temple and observe their daily rituals. Afterwards visit the newly remodelled National History Museum for an excellent overview of Mongolia’s history and culture and the Zanabazar Fine Arts Museum which contains one of the best collections of Buddhist art and artifacts in the world. This evening, drive to Zaisan Memorial and enjoy a panoramic view of the city, river and surrounding countryside.

Day 3: Ulaanbaatar – Gobi Desert
Transfer to the airport for a flight south to the Gobi Desert. On arrival you are driven to Yol Valley National Park in the foothills of the Altai Mountains. A hike through the valley leads to the habitat of indigenous vulturelike Lammergeiers, Altai snowcocks, ibex, yaks and Argali mountain sheep. Continue on to your eco-lodge located near the Gurvansaikhan Gobi National Park.

Day 4: Gobi Desert
Drive to Tugrugyn Shiree, best known for its famous fossil find, the ‘Fighting Dinosaurs’ which was discovered in the 1970s. Explore the white-sandstone escarpment and nearby sand dunes. Later on visit Bulgan, a small town near a natural spring which has one of the only farms in the Gobi supplying local ger camps with fruit and vegetables. On your way back to the lodge visit one of the local families for a display of nomadic culture.

Day 5: Gobi Desert
This morning you are driven into the Moltsog Els sand dunes where you’ll explore on foot or by Bactrian camel. You also have the opportunity to visit a local camel herding family. This afternoon head out to the Flaming Cliffs to admire the orange glow at dusk. It was here in 1923 that Dr. Roy Chapman Andrews and his exploration team from the American Museum of Natural History found the first nest of dinosaur eggs.

Day 6: Gobi Desert – Ulaanbaatar
Return to the capital by air before visiting the Chinggis Khaan Statue Complex. This extraordinary 40m tall statue of Chinggis Khaan on horseback is considered the biggest of its kind in the world. This afternoon is at leisure before a traditional performance of Mongolian dancers and khoomi throat singers.

Day 7: Depart Ulaanbaatar
Transfer to the airport where your journey ends.
