In the history of literature, Luo Binwang was a very influential figure, since he had produced countless poems and articles, among which more than 130 poems and over 30 articles had been left for posterity. However, he was not that complacent in politics. In the domination of Empress Wu Zetian, he joined the rebellion against Wu. Serving as a secretary of the rebellion leader, he even wrote the famous official document against Wu, which shocked and was even praised by Wu for his talent. After the failure of the rebellion, Luo Binwang evaded capture, and disappeared from people’s eyes (some one said he had died, while some others said he had become a Buddhist monk).

Chen Wangdao

Chen Wangdao, Feng Xuefeng and Wu Han are three more names to remember while visiting Yiwu. They contributed enormous effort to the Chinese revolution and the foundation of the PRC. Now their former residences are open to visitors.Also from Xiayan, you can take a bus to the Shengshou Temple located at Fulong Mountain. This temple was originally constructed in the Tang Dynasty with quiet environment, having attracted a series of great Chinese scholars to go there in ancient times to give lectures. At present, an old podocarpus with some 600 years’ history is a highlight here.

Located about 15 kilometres south west of the city centre in Yiting town, Tong Shan Yang is a hill top temple complex next to a reservoir. There are three temples, the main one was build in the late 1980’s and has within it a massive golden Jade Buddha courtesy of the country of Burma.
